I have recently discovered Roberto Ferri, an artist working in oils whose body of work answers the question "What if Caravaggio's work had both more nudity and more body horror :D".
Also, it's making me want to do oils again.

At least it's still 2019?
Dec. 24th, 2019 12:43 amBack in January, I made a post asking people to give me Killjoys to draw, inspired by My chemical Romance's Danger Days: True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys album. I finally finished them!
You may notice it is no longer January! I hit a wall with the drawing, set things aside to try to unblock myself and then I forgot, because I am not good at object permanence.
( 2 pictures under the cut )
ALso, I have seen parts of a stream of the Reunion show and I am full of MCR feelings (joy, mostly) and feelings in general , like it flipped a switch inside me (hope and rage, pretty much).

Mostly over my sickness, though still tired. Unfortunately this appears to be one of those times my tiredness triggers my RLS which is fucking great because the RLS makes it harder to fall asleep which makes me more tired which makes the RLS worse which makes it harder to fall asleep which makes me more tired etc.
( i can't draw :( )
NaNoWriMo and yuletide are also right around the corner and those have... their own issues, for me. Yuletide didn't use to, but after what happened last year (got gifted a DNW, was triggered, went to the mods, author deleted entire fandom presence) I feel like I probably should never participate in an exchange ever again. As for NaNoWriMo, I basically don't know if I can write at all anymore.

One of my family members has been in and out the hospital for over a month now. As off several days ago, he's in a coma. I am having A Worry.
It is a pretty big Worry, ngl. I can't seem to focus on anything except weird online quizzes ("Which Plague of Egypt are you?" -- water turning to blood, apparently) and... No, weird online stuff is pretty much it.
Before my Worry became Le Big Worry, I did manage to draw and paint an oil painting of Natasha Romanoff (for

1. New Avengers:Endgame posters are out. They real the snapped/lived status of a few characters that were not previously known from the movie(s), including one I had been toying with writing a post-Snapture fic about. :( I guess I should focus on the Inanna's Descent inspired fic for the character in the Soul Stone.
2. There was a question on
drawesome about what we wanted to improve in our art and after much handwringing and "i wanna say THE ZING but that's not a thing" I realised that most of the artists I currently follow have excellent use of colour, albeit all in different ways.
I should probably do a post about artists on the internet I follow, at some point. /adds to list of posts to make
Also I showed a coworker a recent small oil painting I made (via a picture on my phone) and she told me I should consider selling my work! I know she was just being nice, but it was a very Very thing to hear. (Very what? Just Very.)
3. I swear ao3 is fucking with me. I already approved these nominated fandoms! Five minutes ago and yesterday and yet there they are >:[

Silver lining
Feb. 23rd, 2019 10:56 pmMy shoulder has been pretty bad the past two weeks or so. One day I was fine, the next I was back to painkillers. This is bullshit. I seem to be better/back to before now, which I'll test tomorrow by going to the pool, but this fucking sucked.
I wanted to do things over the past weeks but alas I kind of... Did Not. Due to spending lost of time lying in bed.
I managed so marginal amounts of art, including finishing the lineart of a thing I've been working on since November which was missing a handful of details/small elements of the composition.
For Chocolate Box I got Wish Fulfillment, a modern/mundane AU Phasma/Rey fic. I made three art gifts: Sabrina/Prudence, Sabrina as Little Red Riding Hood (both for same person -- my assigned recip -- and in the The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (TV) fandom) and Gwen + Peter ballet dancing (Into the Spider-verse).
Figured out that the novel I was writing was working towards two completely contradictory climaxes. The climax that happens first literally breaks the world. "Summon Cthulhu and a posse of Great Old Ones" breaks the world. Which is kind of a problem when the other climax happens after a roadtrip. Granted it is a weird roadtrip featuring a witch manipulating her vampiress lover into noncon apotheosis, but the two parts of the story just don't fucking mesh. Will probably have to do some surgery and split them into two stories. Somehow.
ALSO I WATCHED UMBRELLA ACADEMY? And AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Yeah, I feel like that sums up my thoughts for now. That and SEASON TWO WHEN

I finished a sketchbook!
There's something so nice and tangible about that; it makes the effort of the past few months very apparent. I think this is better for me than the loose sheets I was using before.
Started in early November. 98 pages, but I think I missed a few, so let's say 95 drawings in less than three months. About half are comic layout drafts (final or not) and the last three are basically just the same portrait three times as I was figuring out a drawing trick.
New sketchbook is actually not completely new, as it has a handful of free-hand master copies I made in a museum a couple months back. 10/10 would draw again.
Today I have also send not so much An Email as the pre-email email, but still, it is a step. And it was ~ scary ~ because idk how to talk to people

My brain is mush
Jan. 20th, 2019 11:53 pmSTILL SICK URGH THE WORST that's two weekends in a row I couldn't go swimming like wtf I hate this
I've slowly moved into making myself draw while watching random stuff of Youtube/catching up on TV shows/etc. Ultimately I want to watch less random stuff, to have more time for other things, but my brain is not good at stuff right now (partly because I am still sick partly because stress) so I'll take "doing something productive while watching random stuff". I drew the two pictures currently posted at my Killjoys post using using this "method".

Killjoys, make some noise!
Jan. 16th, 2019 12:43 amSo. Killjoys (not the TV show with Hannah John-Kamen, which I love btw) is a music + comics.
The music is My Chemical Romance's 2010 album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, specifically the music videos for Na Na Na and Sing. (Embeds below the cut.)
( The aftermath is secondary )
Brightly coloured outlaws fight fascist corporation with undead underlings. ALSO IT'S SET IN 2019 and boy does part of the previous sentence sound a lot more relevant now than when the album came out.
The comic picks up about a decade later. Writing by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon, with art by Becky Cloonan. Which brings me to my point.
I need to practice (a) character design, (b) inkingand (c) followthrough, so if you give me a Killjoy I'll draw them for you. It can be you or a character from a thing, whatever.
I just need a name, but pick a bright colour, too! Additional info is also good.
Here are some names from the combined canon, to give hou an idea what Killjoy names sond like: Dr. Death Defying, Fun Ghoul, Jet Star, Kobra Kid, Party Poison, Cherri Cola, Show Pony, Val Velocity and Phoenix Witch.I'm gonna be Manatee Bandit.
[EDIT: to clarify, I mean "tell me to design Killjoy versions of [folks]".]
Offer open to anyone who wants to join in.

Dec. 6th, 2018 12:01 amAs an aside to yesterday's post, I mentionned MCU Sorcerer Supreme Wanda Maximoff. I realised that there was no way I would ever see that unless someone drew it and that seemed unlikely.
But then I realised. I can draw!

What do you think? MCU Wanda: MCR fan or nah?

Miscellania
Nov. 9th, 2018 11:23 pm1. Apparently I tend to stand with my hands/fists on my hips a lot. One of my coworkers has started to call me out on "being Wonder Woman again", lol. I mean, said coworker also calls me out on "doing the :3 cat face again" which I have no idea what it means?
2. I am starting to pick up learning Korean again. It's kind of emotionally hard, for the same reasons I dropped it in the first place. It reminds me of my Roomate From Hell, but dammit, I shall persevere.
3. I'm working on a companion-piece of sorts to the Tanith watercolour. It's in a somewhat different style, though still watercolour, hopefully with ink highlights -- silver this time. Tanith and Joan of Arc. I think I could do worse, but also, you know what? I could definitely do a lot worse at drawing. I mean, I still need to take full stock of Inktober ~taught me~, but fuck it. Even if I'm not good at art, there was nothing there before and now there is something. And that's worth something.

For the first time in ages I have managed to write more than 500 words in a day and I liked it. That's honestly a huge relief. I'm not saying the words are all good words or story words, but I don't give a fuck.
I mean, I hadn't stopped writing, not entirely, but I managed maybe 100 words and even on the rare cases I wrote more, I still hated the writing of it. (Yeah, I am one of those people who -- when I have feelings -- enjoys the actual act of writing and not just 'having written', if that makes sense.)
What helped today was the trick (originally from
sholio's post, found via
yhlee's post) to write a blurb/back-cover summary and use that as the outline.
Also I saw the series finale for Star Wars Rebels and SPOILERS Rex gets to see the end of the Empire! Gregor though ;_; CAN I SHIP AHSOKA/SABINE YET?! Lol Zeb/Kallus going to see Zeb's family. (As canon as that's gonna get, lol.) Hera's son's design was awful. I love Sabine's new hair, though. I don't like Pryce but I kind of respect her for going down with the ship, as it were. Looking forward to Thrawn being a magnificent bastard in future. Tbh although I don't give a fuck about Ezra, I really want Sabine/Ahsoka adventures! /SPOILERS
Oh, also I got my Prismacolors from the deep discount a while back and after a very enjoyable hour where I sorted them by numerical order while listening to Critical Role, I have for the past two weeks or so been using one a day to colour my daily sketches. Having a semi-random colour every day forces me to draw stuff I might to usually have, so that's good. The order is semi-random because the numerical codes shuffled the colours; the box originally came with the pencils sorted by colours.

Art! For Chocobox
Feb. 19th, 2018 11:52 pmI made five art pieces for
chocolateboxcomm , grouped into two works on Ao3. They're all for
koraki who had such amazing Star Wars art prompts that I (a) offered in that fandom based on those prompts and (b) wanted to draw all of them. (For reasons not worth explaining at this juncture the art is solely black and white lineart.)
The prompt for this one is "The caretakers get Rey to carry things around for them and reach for items that are too high up, since she's so strong and tall and motivated". I went with an art style inspire by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Le Petit Prince because I'm more familiar with it than Tomm Moore's style but they're still similar styles.
A more detailed summary: Rey kisses Rose on the cheek; Rose dip-kisses Rey.
Attempts at being cute somewhat successfully, I think, so there's that. #toogothforcute

Recent happenings
Jun. 29th, 2017 11:08 pmOn Tuesday I came home from work, decided to lie down for a bit because I was feeling sick and woke up with my alarm the following day, having slept 12 entire hours and still feeling as ill and tired. On Wednesday I had to stop halfway up a flight of stairs because I was feeling faint. But who gives a shit, amirite? /is bitter about things
On Wednesday,

Somehow I never got around to posting about the gift I got. So here it is:

Maythe4th works
May. 8th, 2017 11:03 pmI got two fics and made 3 works.
The two fics I got were both femslash.
Someone wrote me Leia/Sabine with bodyswap! It's very cute.
Sometimes I request stuff in exchanges that I don't think I'll get, just because maybe I will and this time I did! It's Force-ghost!Jyn/Rey and it's really sweet.
Of the three works I made, two are art (both femslash) and one is fic (maleslash).
An oil painting. I can't be having with those newfangled Photoshoppe /joke
It took me about 8 hours to paint this. 2h+ for the background alone, about as much for the lineart/making sure the composition worked, and the rest on the figures. I haven't done oil in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages and I was never really good at it, it shows somewhat.
People seemed to like it though, so yay! (Gifting art is so stressful, omg! Have you seen the art in this exchange?)
Merfilly's "size difference" prompt was super inspiring, ngl!
So inspiring that I forgot to check if the letter had DNWs that the sign-up did not. SPOILERS: It did, but I asked through the mods if the deathfic DNW extended to "implied/allegorical representations of canonical character death in art", and was told it was fine. Which is good, because it's quite hard to switch tracks on an oil painting halfway through.
The beam of green light in the background is the Death Star laser. It is of course Deeply Symbolic that it goes through Jyn and not Mon, just as it is Deeply Symbolic that the direction of Jyn's gaze lines up with it. Jyn facing her death head-on was one of my favourite bits of the movie.
This was my back up in case I didn't manage to finish the oil painting in time. Pencil sketches coloured in markers, then cleaned up and recoloured in GIMP.
I should have tagged both of these as "fanart" instead of "art" from the start. Lesson learned for next time. (Wish I knew how to post fullsize art on tumblr as 'top' image /is a Fandom Old, cannot Tumbl with the Cool Kids)
I saw the mod joking about various challenges that hadn't been filled and those could combine in a single prompt and was like "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED". Didn't quite manage to put in all of the things (lack of time -- you can still see traces of where it was going to go), but it was still fun to write. Also, Pairing names with both slash and pipes are lolarious.
(I am back on the internet, yay!)

Summary: The window, in traditional Alderaanian stained glass, is believed to have been comissioned by HRH Leia Organa in memory of Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila and her lover, Jyn Erso of Rogue One.
