I followed [livejournal.com profile] egelantier 's advice and watched The Secret of Kells. I'm kind of speechless, I have to admit. This movie is really really gorgeous and that goes for both the art (OMG THE ART) and the story (was I crying all over the ending? Yes I was). It's really beautifully drawn and animated and I loved all the characters. I wanted more of all of them, especially Aisling and Pangur the Cat and Brendan. Just, it's great, you should see it.

I also finished watching S1 of Sleepy Hollow. I really liked it! The screen was a bit too dark, I missed some valuable info in spots and had to go back a bit  because I was drawing and I don't know enough about US history to appreciate all the ways they play with it. (Who is Paul Revere, anyway?) I know most of the fandom ships Ichabod/Abbie, but I really like them as BFFs who would do anything for each other and I hope it stays this way. I just have a thing for very intense platonic bonds that are (one of) the most important relationships to someone. Which is also one of the reasons I like Wareghouse 13, by the way. For some reason, I kept expecting the reveal that Abbie wasn't the Witness but Jenny, but obviously that never happened. I really enjoyed Ichabod dealing with the 21rst century, because fish out of temporal water is always great. And I gotta say that was a very gutsy way to end a season and I'm with Ichabod the thing with the Golem was a jerk move.

I had no idea! I knew lots of shows filmed in Canada, but I thought that since the setting was so important to the plot, they'd film on location.

Only, in some ways, the setting isn't very important to the plot. It's not like Person of Interest where New York is basically a character in the story in its own right.

Sleepy Hollow required a small town, some old farmhouses/cabins from the right period and some overgrown countryside. The Wilmington areas has those in spades.

Dino De Laurentis built his film studios in Wilmington, North Carolina to avoid having to deal with the unions and excessive filming costs and they've been filming things there ever since. The giant water tank they've used in action films like the Bond films is located there. The small town of Wilmington has a downtown that passes well for certain parts of New York.

I tend to assume that since it's named after the place, the place is important. Plus, there are all these shots of the map in the intro.

That is super cool!
