Fandom Snowflake 2022 Challenge #5

In your own space, Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

In an attempt to improve my cooking and bring some novelty in my life, I made a food/recipe bingo card. I'm sharing it here in case it's of interest to anyone and if anyone has recs to share, please do!

It's as flexible as I could make it so hopefully dietary restrictions aren't an issue.

a recipe from Africa a dish best served hot a family recipe a recipe from Oceania
a soup or stew a savoury fruit dish a salad an old favourite
a recipe from Asia a sweet vegetable dish a recipe from the Americas a recipe from a friend
an ingredient you've never tried before a recipe from Europe a one pot dish a dish best served cold
(hard mode: not revenge)

Challenge #2
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Beyond the goals I'm carrying over from previous years (try to write and draw every day, swim more, etc) there are six goals I'm bringing into the new year.

1. No-buy (ie not spend any money in 2022 beyond replacing things and groceries or gifts for other people) as a sacrifice to Tanith for bringing my cat* back because I want/need to save money and I am tired of beating myself up for buying books I then don't read and things of that nature.

2. This is less a goal for this year than it is a moral imperative, but I've only recently discovered pigs can use tools so I now don't eat pork. Once a species has proven capable of tool use I consider it morally indefensible of me to treat eating them differently than I would a human being (ie: not outside extreme survival situations and/or without consent). This is also why I have not eaten octopus in years (to quote John Oliver: TOOL USE MOTHERFUCKERS). Please don't be like my family and try to argue me out of this.

3. I hope I get well enough to be able to work on and post the comic on Webtoon Canvas. Actually, I hope I get well in general.

4. Stop putting energy into one-sided relationships.

5. Figure out how the fuck structural edits work and then Do Them on a thing.

6. Post [specific fic]? Hopefully?

Challenge #3
In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea.

AUs that change the setting aren't usually my thing, but more power to the people who like them. You do you! I'm a HUGE fan of canon-divergence AUs, however. It's more of what I like? The same but different? YES PLEASE

Challenge #4
In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, and/or that you'd like someone to create or do for you.

The only thing I wish fandom had that it doesn't is: Less Discourse. Please, I'm tired.

I would be extremely grateful if a Black person from the US could check my Killmonger voice in a 26k Black Panther fic I wrote -- I did my best but I've never lived in the US and I want to make sure I didn't get anything wrong. The fic can be described as "Shuri vs the gods of pre-dynastic Egypt (and Killmonger is there also)", but if it's easier I could do a supercut of only the Killmonger sections -- which is still a significant portion of the story, even if it's Shuri's PoV.

In your own space, update your fandom information! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm [personal profile] dhampyresa on DW and [archiveofourown.org profile] sevenofspade on Ao3. I am:
  • Sharing my home with a cat. Around these parts, she is known as Miss Creant.

  • French. Though I try my best certain nuances of other cultures (or hell even French culture) will sometimes pass me by.

  • Fluent in both French and English. My Brezhoneg is marginally better than my Korean, which is to say: I can read it and understand 1% of the words.

  • An ArtistTM. I draw most days. Maybe one day I'll have the confidence to post some of it online more often than once in a blue moon.

  • Queer. I can't be fucked to define my gender or sexuality beyond "neither cis nor het".

  • Allegedly a writer, not that you'd know it from my fannish output these days.

  • Sick. I end 2020 in the hospital (not covid) and have been recovering ever since.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

In reverse chronological order of writing.

Seas Would Rise (1253 words) by sevenofspade
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Original Characters
Additional Tags: Yuletide Treat
Summary: Dead, mortal and gone, the gods went and left behind the world.
It's the only fic I wrote this yuletide that only the recip commented on. Also, I'm proud of the fact I managed to rewrite 2/3 of it after losing the first draft entirely, because the last time something like that happened (years and years ago) I didn't pick up the story again and stopped writing entirely for months. Progress.

Two for Joy (3389 words) by sevenofspade
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Loki: Agent of Asgard, Journey into Mystery
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Loki (Marvel), Verity Willis
Summary: This is a story about Loki. It doesn't feature quite as much lying as you might expect based on that. Verity won't let it.
Because I'm proud of this fic, dammit. (Also, I wrote it for the exchange I accidentally ended up modding. [community profile] nightonficmountain will run in 2015 too, btw, with noms beginning in April and stories revealed around the June solstice.)

Punica Fides (3681 words) by sevenofspade
Chapters: 2/2
Fandom: Ancient History RPF
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Hannibal Barca/Scipio Africanus
Characters: Hannibal Barca, Scipio Africanus
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Gender Changes, Alternate History, Yuletide Treat
Summary:

Ten conversations Hannibal Barca and Scipio Africanus never had.

Hannibal/Scipio is pretty much the pairing of my heart, for various reasons. (It edges out Yoko/Khäny because it has enemies-to-friends, which is one of my favourite tropes. And because both "write fic in ENglish for canon in French" and "write fic in French" do my head in to think about.) This fic was the first one I wrote for it and as far as I know, it was the first fic written for that pairing ever. I did that. Me. *waves tiny flag*
