dhampyresa: (A most terrible case of the Star Wars)
I wrote a pinch-hit for [community profile] fandom5k.
Pocketful of stories (5031 words) by sevenofspade
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types, Star Wars Original Trilogy
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Ahsoka Tano, Padmé Amidala
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Worldbuilding, Folklore
Summary: Ahsoka travelled the galaxy, collecting tales and sowing revolution along the way.

I had a lot of fun coming up with the various folktales intersped in this.

All the planets/people have different ways of framing stories.
  • Stories from Naboo start with either "Once upon a time, above wave, below stars" for the Gungan stories and "Once upon a time, below stars" for the non-Gungan stories.
  • Stories on Alderaan start with "Long ago on Alderaan" and by giving the main character's relationship to Queenship.
  • Stories on Pantora start with "When yesterday was yet to be" and end with a bracketed statement including the phrase "Do not believe them." -- they refute other versions of the story.
  • Clone stories are much more informal in tone and start with "They say this is a true story".
  • Ykobar stories start with "There was a time" which is a literal translation of the French "Il était une fois", the traditional start to a fairytale. They end in "The tale still goes on and is only just beginning".
The stories of the Kermor are variations on the tale of the city of Ys -- the word Kermor itself is made up of two Breton words, "ker" (meaning "a place where people live") and "mor" (meaning "sea"). I was originally going to go with "Morvac'h" ("Horse of the sea") -- especially given that it's part of some versions the Ys legend and can be a war omen -- but ultimately decided against it. The c'h sound tends to be confusing for people unfamiliar with Breton; it's a voiceless velar fricative -- the same sound as in loch.

I didn't sign up for [community profile] fandom5k because I didn't know if I would have time -- and I kind of ran out of time on this pinch-hit a bit -- but I should have signed up if I was going to end up writing for it anyway. Then again, given my computer issues, I wouldn't have been able to comment until yesterday/today, which seems like a dick move. Not that could have known either of those things at the time. What I'm trying to say is that I'll sign up next year.

I wrote four fics for Trick or Treat! 3 are from fandoms I've written before, one is a new fandom.

I got three fics! And I am delighted.

First off, I got two perfect drabbles in Rome (HBO). They each took one of my prompts and made them amazing!

Debauched (100 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Rome (TV 2005)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Octavia of the Julii, Cleopatra VII of Egypt
Additional Tags: Drabble, What-If
Summary: Octavia and Cleopatra talk at a dinner party.

Fall (100 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Rome (TV 2005)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Niobe (Rome), Lucius Vorenus, Titus Pullo
Additional Tags: Drabble, Fix-It, Implied Niobe/Vorenus/Pullo, Suicide Attempt, But I tried not to dwell
Summary:

In another world, they had a second chance.

And the last (but certainly not least) fic I got is Ys fic. Someone wrote me Ys fic. Whoever you are, mysterious author, thank you so much.

Daughter of the Sea (three stories, from the north, the south, and elsewhere) (3610 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 3/3
Fandom: Legend of the City of Ys, Folklore - Fandom, Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Malgven, Gradlon, Dahud, Winwaloe
Summary:

Yes, I have seen the white daughter of the sea, and I have heard her sing, and her songs were plaintive as the sound of the waves.

It's a retelling of the legend that's goddamn fucking brilliant is what it is. It manages to be both new and evoke the old stories and just, it's amazing, yeah.

(Also, I am doing NaNoWriMo this month, except I plan to kick ass, go to space and represent the human race, so I'm doing it in a slightly altered way. Pictures are worth a thousand words, right?)

Hi!

I'm really excited to see what you're going to make for me. So excited! It's my first time doing this exchange, but I've done a bunch before.

I have three Do Not Wants: incest, rape and child abuse. When these are canon, please don't focus on them. I'd also prefer is you didn't dwell on any suicidal ideation or prolonged descriptions of grief. Thank you.

On the other hand, there are a lot of things I do want. Here’s a partial list. (I obviously don’t expect you to stick all of these in one story, that would be impossible.)
General likes )

I'm now going to give you a hanful of fandom specific prompts, but you really don't have to pick any of them. Write what you want!
