Dear Yuletide writer
Oct. 23rd, 2012 03:30 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
First of all, thank you for writing for me. Second, I will probably be away from the computer over the Christmas-to-New Year period, so don't worry if I don't comment on your story right away. Thirdly, I'm kind of terrible at coming up with prompts, so this letter will mostly be reposting my Ao3 sign-up and gushing about the canons and why I love them so much.
This is my first year doing Yuletide so if I do something wrong, like not having enough prompts or something, feel free to drop me a line.
Feel free to poke around my LJ. My Ao3 account is sevenofspade. It's not very up to date.
In general, I like plot over introspection. I would also prefer something happy, but do what you want. Porn tends to bore on its own, but I don't mind it as part of a story. I love love love anything pertaining to mythology and folklore, so if you want to write me a fic that reads like a fairytale? That would be awesome. I'm a big fan of canon-divergent/what-if AUs so that would also be cool. I also tend to be more of a gen person, but if you want to write me femslash (or het or slash or relationships involving non-gendered people or more than one person)? I would be totally cool with that.
Actually, you can take this as a rec for all of those canons. Also, here be spoilers.
Dogma (1999): Any
X-Club: Kavita Rao, Doctor Nemesis | James Bradley, Danger (Marvel), Madison Jeffries | Box
Wind on Fire - William Nicholson: Kestrel Hath, Mist (Wind on Fire)
Choice of Broadsides: Female Protagonist, Captain Villeneuve (Choice of Broadsides)
Everything in this letter is optional, write whatever you want and I will gladly read it. It should be apparent that I really really love those canons and so, I will read anything.

Dogma (1999): Any
I would love anything pertaining to any of the nominated characters. I'd prefer something happy to something dark, but do what you want. Here are some prompts, but feel free to ignore them. Is Metatron godparent to Bethany's child? Does Loki get a second chance? How does Serendipity feel about going back to Heaven? Metatron's quest for God. Does Bethany take her child to play skeeball? Are Serendipity and Bethany BFFs? Why does Loki like cartoons so much? How come Loki and Bartleby are friends with Azrael?I love this movie in all its fucked up glory, theological mistakes and all. I love that this is clearly a movie by someone who knows their Catholic lore but went "fuck this I do what I want" and so we have God playing skeeball instead. I love all the little bits about faith and religion dropped throughout, without derailing the story. I love that Bethany takes no shit from nobody, not even the Voice of God. I love how blasé about everything Metatron is and how his clothes always get ruined. I love the way Bartleby is the sane one at the beginning and how that gets completely and utterly turned on its head by the end. I feel bad for Loki because all he's guilty of (besides murder) is wanting to go home and standing by his friend. I love Serendipity and her talking back to Azrael. Look, I just really love this movie, ok?
X-Club: Kavita Rao, Doctor Nemesis | James Bradley, Danger (Marvel), Madison Jeffries | Box
I would love anything with these four. Preferably something fluffy/happy, but not necessarily. Here are some prompts, that you can ignore. Prank wars at the office of pure empirical science. What happens to Doctor Nemesis' starfish? Doctor Rao saves the day. danger trolling the fuck out of Jeffries and/or the rest of the team. What is it like, being a technopath? Science-off with Doctor Doom/Tony Stark/whoever. Team-up with Rogue/Captain Marvel/whoever against Galactus. Given that they're essentially mad scientists, any trope could work: bodyswap, timetravel, sexswap, dimension hopping, sudden invisibility, etc. Basically, go nuts.THEY DO SCIENCE! And that is why I love them. They're a bunch of (mad) scientists in a crazy universe and completely unrepentant about it. Some of the science even makes sense. I love Kavita Rao and how complex a character she is and how smart and compassionate she is and her efusal to let go of science even when faced with a mutant sorceress from hell. I love Doctor Nemesis, his starfish, his overblown megalomania, his desperate need for approval/attention and his shark riding. I love Danger and her teasing Jeffries about him sufferring from menopause. I love Madison Jeffries and how he decides that if he's going to die, then he might as well have a beautiful view while doing it. In short, GO TEAM SCIENCE!
Wind on Fire - William Nicholson: Kestrel Hath, Mist (Wind on Fire)
This is more an OR request than an AND request, but if you find a way to have Kestrel and Mist team up against the Morah or be in the same fic, I definitely wouldn't say no. I'd rather a happy /fluffy story, but write what inspires you. Prompts follow, but you can ignore them. What happened during the years between Windsinger and Slaves of the Mastery? What's it like being a free-floating spirit? What about a telekinetic cat, how's that like? Is the Morah truly gone for good, or will it reappear? Sisi and Kestrel on the road to the Mastery. What happened to the Voice of the Windsinger? How about an AU where Marius Semeon Ortiz doesn't die, and how does that change things?I love those books so much. I first read them a long long time ago, in French and some of the visuals have haunted me for years. I recently found them again/remembered what they were called (surprisingly, "the book with the orange cover with floaty people on it" is not a very useful desription) and fell in love with them all over again. I can fairly say that they feature lots of tropes I love and are probably the reason I love them. I love how terrifying the Zaars and the Morah are and how, in completely different ways, so are Aramanth and the Mastery, when we first meet them. I love the whole Hath family and how they so very clearly care for each other. I love Sisi and how, for all that she's introduced as a spoiled princess, she so very very strong. I love Bowman and how he's willing to do the right thing, no matter the cost. I love this in Kestrel too. I love how little romance there is and how Kestrel doesn't get one, even though I shipped Kestrel/Sisi and Kestrel/Marius and Marius/bowman before I even knew what shipping was. I love Mist for being so cat-like and so stubborn. I love the way William Nicholson showed that, sometimes, the ones who are left behing hurt more than the ones who hurt the most and the way Kestrel survived giving her life for what she believed in, without somehow cheapening her sacrifice. Most of all, i love Kestrel. She's smart and strong and capable, does the right thing and stands by her friends. She's one of the better fleshed-out characters I've ever read and I wish more people knew how awesome she was. Also, have I mentionned that I love those books? Because I do.
Choice of Broadsides: Female Protagonist, Captain Villeneuve (Choice of Broadsides)
I would love fic for this, wether it's Female Protagonist/Captain Villeneuve or gen. I would prefer something happy, especially in the verse where Villeneuve doesn't die and Female Protagonsit makes it into Parliament, but write what you want. I have some prompts, but feel free to ignore them. I want to know what happens after Female Protagonist becomes a Dame and the war is over. Does she meet Villeneuve again? Is there another war and are they on opposite sides once more? Do they elope? What is life like in the matriarchal!AU Choice of Broadsides takes place in? What do the history books say about Female Protagonist? What if in that final battle Villeneuve took Female Protagonist prisoner? What if they had eloped when the second war erupted? How does Villeneuve feel about the whole story?Choice of Broadsides is basically a choose-your-own-adventure book, but playable entirely for free on the Internet. I really like the whole Female Protagonist/Captain Villeneuve relationship (romance or friendship) because it plays into one of my favourite tropes which is people on opposite sides that care about each other, be they friends-turned-enemies or enemies-turned-friends. I also really love the concept of a matriarchal society in what is more or less Napoleonic era Britain, pardon me, Albion, and France, sorry Gaul. I know this is probably just for ease of coding, but I love that it's even an option.
Everything in this letter is optional, write whatever you want and I will gladly read it. It should be apparent that I really really love those canons and so, I will read anything.
