The existence of a Sandman adaptation is hilarious to me. My copy of The Kindly Ones has a foreword that contains the following:

And the next frame, Dream's response, is simply a wordless, tight close-up of his tortured face. (That's an effect, by the way, that neither a novel nor a film could achieve with the same force, since a novel would have to describe his face, and a film could only give us an actor trying to imitate that bleak mask of regret. The comic, in Marc Hempel's brilliantly reductive drawing style, gives us the thing itself.)

I've only seen a few episodes so far - please NO spoilers to anyone else who might see this comment - but I've never seen an actor who looked more like a comic illustration brought to life. Even stripped bare, you could see every muscle in his body.

No, I'm not saying he looks like the actual illustration of course. :D

I could see STRIATIONS IN HIS BACK -- that was kinda scary tbh. Not sure those should be visible at a healthy level of body fat.

The actor tried his BEST. That's what I will say. It is not the comic, it has the spirit of the comic, it has the updated beats that a story NOW like that needs.

It's not the comic and it shouldn't try to be the comic, imho. It should have the vibe of the comic, which it sounds like it does so yay!

I was more a fan of Death and Delirium, yet this mini=series kept me enthralled, and the changes made from the source only heighten the world they built.

They did a good job with the adaptation! Like, somehow they made the Corinthian even creepier? I have not seen the final episode, but will watch it with a friend soon. But you can see them setting up the kindly ones arc from the beginning in the show. GNeil did good.
