I didn't realize it had been explicitly floated by the series before the last few episodes! (In implication, always. There's a great clip from an interview with Patrick Troughton that's been making the rounds that makes this clear.) I can see how that would feel like fan-baiting if not followed through.

Shortly after regeneration, while he's taking stock of his new body, 11 finds he has longer hair and goes "I'm a girl?!". It goes by very fast and is very much a jokey aside, but it happened.

That clip is great! Not just the part about the Doctor being any sex, but also "no doubt greater numbers of all sort of things" :D

YES! YAY! At the time, I was so mad about Matt Smith being another weird looking white guy, but he totally got me with his Eleven. So good. I wish I'd loved Twelve as much as I loved the others in New Who, but maybe he'll grow on me with rewatches. And Bill is lovely.

BUT OMG IT'S ABOUT TIME.
