So I saw La Guerre des Étoiles: Le Réveil de la Force again. You may know this better at Star Wars: The Force Awakens. French movie rebranding strikes again!

I've seen it twice, once in 2D, once in 3D, both times in English with French subtitles. Quite frankly, I liked the 2D better than the 3D, for two reasons: 1, the lenses for the 3D glasses were smaller than the lenses for my prescription glasses and 2, I was in the front row for the 2D.

I was in the front row and then the music started blaring and I was suddenly five years old again. But it was better, because it was on the big screen and there's so many women and and and...

Well, I liked it a lot. But then again, I've never considered myself a Star Wars fan. I like the prequels -- pretty sure the last time I saw a Star Wars movie was III, in theaters. I ent to see this one because it's been ages since I saw some space opera on the big screen and I am weak in front of pretty pictures. Bottom line: I am Not An Expert TM.

Anyway, I liked it a lot!

In case anyone is curious about tu/vous distinctions in the subtitles: Rey calls everyone tu right away (except Han, Kylo Ren and very briefly Finn*), Poe and Finn call each other tu on sight, the only unequal tu/vous are Han calling Finn and Rey tu while they call him vous and Kylo Ren calling Rey tu while she calls him vous (WAY TO BE A CREEP DUDE). I can't think of anything else off-hand, but if anyone wants to know about any of them, just ask.

THERE'S A GIRL JEDI! :D

Let me repeat: THERE'S A GIRL JEDI! That moment when the lightsabre flies into her hand? My heart soared.

This is the Star Wars I wish I'd seen as a child. THERE'S A GIRL JEDI. There's General Organa. There's the female officers of the Resistance and the First Order. There's Phasma and that female X-Xing pilot. There's Maz Kanata. There's so many women!

Rey is so great. SO GREAT! She's amazing. She's resourceful and kind and brash and smart and stubborn as hell and doesn't afraid of anything. I would love her even if she'd never become a Jedi, but I can't deny that my inner child is still going GIRL JEDI! :D! GIRL JEDIIIIIIII! GIRL JEDI! GIRL JEDI! GIRL JEDI! :DDDDD

Then there's Finn, who decided to be his own person. He decided to be his own person and not who everyone wanted him to be, because that was the right thing to do. (And he needed a pilot; that was a good plan, btw.)

There's BB8 who is super cute and opiniated and cares so much.

There's Poe, who takes time to reassure his droid that everything will be fine and who thinks escaping from Kylo Ren is a totally rad adventure and who blithely gives his jacket away to a near stranger.

There's Leia who is a general and so badass and also kind of a Jedi? She Gets Shit Done, it's great.

Kylo Ren is such a failboat and kind of space!Hamlet, tbh. Acts like a teenager, is supposedly 30 (?!).This comparaison makes the lack of ghost!Anakin in the movie even more peculiar. But I'm sure there's great mileage to be had out of Alas, poor Vader, I knew him, Hux, a fellow of most infinite Dark Side

I just really enjoyed the movie.

What I haven't enjoyed so far is the fandom. Idk if it's because it's the first time in ages I'm somewhat invested in a megafandom, but I keep coming across people trying to tell other people how to do fandom. YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO. If I see one more anti-Rey/Kylo Ren screed, I will fucking writing some. Don't you try me, I have a canon-divergent premise that's perfect for it. (No, but seriously, are these people new to fandom? People have hero/villain ships, big whoop.)

Anyway, I'm not sure yet if I want to write fic for it. Me being me, I feel like every idea I have is about 90° off what everyone else wants to read so *shrugs*. (But it would be hilarious if Luke had been training secret Jedis on his island planet because too many Skywalkers spoil the soup Force, I am just saying.)

* Rey first calls Finn tu, then vous for the very brief period between him saying he's Resistance and when he grabs her hand, then back to tu again.

tl;dr: GIRL JEDI :D!

Yeah, I liked it a lot. Idk about fic, but I really want to go draw fem!Kylo Ren, that's one hell of an outfit.

I had fun with it, but I also felt like there were a few too many wide shots of the Millennium Falcon for the sake of nostalgia and such like. I spent a fair bit of time in the cinema thinking, "Yes, trust us. We *have* seen the other movies. We *are* having childhood flashbacks. No need to be so heavy handed about it."

But yes, the presence of girl Jedi was very exciting, and child!me would've been so into Rey, and spent undoubtedly a large amount of time fighting with her sister about who got to be Rey in the pretend games and who had to be girl!Finn or girl!Poe.

I especially loved the fact that the three main characters spent so much time complimenting each other. Every time they did something that worked out, the other one would come around like, "That was amazing!" and then, "No, you were amazing!" "Wow, we were both amazing, check it out!"

I don't know that I'd write fic about it, but I'm pretty sure that whatever you've got in mind is the kind of fic I'd be willing to read. =P
