dhampyresa: (Epic shit happening on the internet)

No, seriously, I have. Every time I think it can't get any more awesome, it does.

First there was me managing to write 8 fics, despite everything (including the one I wrote on the plane): 1 assignment, 6 full-length treats and 1 madness treat. (Speaking of which, I will write a fic for anyone who guesses right about which fic(s) I wrote.)

Then there were my yuletide gifts, of which I got A LOT. (Presented here in alphabetical order/grouped by fandom.)

In "Carthaginian mythology" alone, I got three (3!) and to think this was the fandom I thought was the least likely to be written. I got basically every single permuation of the Dido + Tanith relationship possible. I got a fic where Tanith was waiting for Dido to arrive, I got a fic where Tanith followed Dido to Carthage and I got Dido/Tanith femslash. YES.

The foundations of Carthage (1731 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Carthaginian Mythology
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Dido | Elissa (Carthaginian Mythology), Tanith (Carthaginian Mythology)
Additional Tags: Rituals, Sacred Marriage, Rain
Summary: When Dido's ship scraped the sand at her new city, She was there, waiting for them. When the rains were needed, She came at Dido's asking, giving the gift of life to the new city, the City that belonged to Tanith.
TANITH/DIDO FEMSLASH. It's so great.

The Scent of the Sea (2059 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Carthaginian Mythology
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Summary: Leaving is only hard if you have nowhere to go: Elissa knows her destiny is waiting beyond the walls of Tyre, she just has to go out and seek it.
It's got Elissa and Hanna and I love love the relationship between them as painted here and the ending is PERFECT. PERFECT, I SAY.

The Tanith Cycle (4287 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Carthaginian Mythology
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Tanith/Ba'al, Dido/Sychaeus
Characters: Tanith, Ba'al, Dido, Sychaeus, Anna, Mot, El
Additional Tags: Ugaritic Mythology, Middle East Mythology, Yuletide Treat, Yuletide 2015, Decapitation, Dehanding, Wading in Blood, Death, Over the top revenge, Misses Clause Challenge, Female POV, Female Friendship, Female Character of Color
Summary: A god could not be respected if she did not have a palace. Tanith was done sitting at the edge of El's table waiting for respect.
If Dido promised her a palace, then Tanith would go with her and do all that was in her power to help her.
I really love the relationship between Tanith and Dido in this one, Tanith's hunger for war against Dido's measured peace and the trust between the two. It's also fix-it fic! (And the Tanith/Ba'al relationship is really sweet.)

Y'all should go and read all my Carthaginian mythology fics because they're all awesome! But you should also read my Gwen Variants (Marvel Comics Covers) fics too, because they are ALSO awesome. I got notifs for two (2!) such fics in the main collection. I got Gwen!Hawkeye with MJ!Black Widow and I got Sorcerer Supreme Gwen Stacy on Battleworld.

Better From A Distance (1008 words) by Anonymous

Summary: "A bow and arrow," the Infamous Black Widow says, "I didn't realize we'd traveled back in time to the era of the caveman."
"Paleolithic," Gwen corrects instinctively. “I looked it up.”

MJ!Black Widow and Hawkeye!Gwen: superheroes by night! In a band, presumably also by night!

See the Blazing Skies Before Us (2049 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gwen Variants (Marvel Comics Covers), Marvel Secret Wars Battleworlds
Rating: General Audiences

Relationships: Minor or Background Relationship(s)

Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, LUDICROUS HOLIDAY NONSENSE
Summary: One night in the depths of winter, meditating atop the ramparts of Castle Doom, the Sorceress Supreme senses an intruder. She attempts countermeasures.
This is Sorcerer Supreme Gwen Stacy as God-Emperor Doom's right hand! And I would read entire comic runs of this, no lie. I love love the narration in the style of Jack Kirby.

I was so happy about all these fics, but then Madness opened and I got another fic!

#It'sRainingGwen (666 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gwen Variants (Marvel Comics Covers), Spider-Gwen (Comics), Marvel (Comics)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Gwen Stacy
Additional Tags: Unconventional Format
Summary:

12:41 PM ET
“I don’t know why this is happening. I promise I’m trying to fix it.”
— Gwen Stacy A.K.A. Cyclops. Other Gwens have echoed this sentiment, including Gwen Stacy A.K.A. Black Widow and Gwen Stacy A.K.A. Wolverine.

The New York Times liveblogs the #Gwenpocalypse.

THE TITLE IS A PUN and the whole fic is basically delightful.

You'd think my yuletide couldn't get anymore awesome, because it's not like I was going to get more fic, was it? But WRONG! I did get more fic! (It was gifted to dhampyresa on ao3 instead of sevenofspade which is why I found it late.)

The Uncanny X-Gwen (7163 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gwen Variants (Marvel Comics Covers), X-Men (Comicverse)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Gwen Stacy, Gwen Stacy | Gwen Storm (X-Men ’92 #1 Gwen Variant Cover), Gwen Stacy | Gwenclops (X-Men ’92 #1 Gwen Variant Cover), Gwen Stacy | Gwencrawler (X-Men '92 #1 Gwen Variant Cover), Gwen Stacy | Gwenolossus (X-Men '92 #1 Gwen Variant Cover), Gwen Stacy | Dagwen (X-Men ’92 #1 Gwen Variant Cover), Scott Summers, Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr, Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, Ororo Munroe, Piotr Rasputin, Kurt Wagner
Additional Tags: Mutant Powers, Multiple Selves
Summary: Gwen Stacy is on a high school trip to Oscorp's science division when she unexpectedly acquires superpowers. Not spider powers, but the X-Men's mutant powers. All of them. Now, if only she can pull herself together...

IT'S 7K OF SUPERPOWERED GWEN AND IT'S AMAZING.

So that's my yuletide. I got seven (7!) fics and I wrote eight (and all of them have been well-received so far), so yes, I have won yuletide, because not only did I get SO MANY FICS, all the fics I got are amazing.

I am unfamiliar with the fandom, but I approve of the punny titles of those last two Madness fics!

You said: Speaking of which, I will write a fic for anyone who guesses right about which fic(s) I wrote.

I'll hazard a guess! :)

Best guess: Shadow-self, in the Arthurian Mythology fandom, for goblinish. And quite likely also What they deserve for Anndy

Would not be shocked if the Triptych for Gehayi is yours. After all, if you requested Carth Myth, you probably offered to write it, too... (which makes me think one or more of your Carth Myth gifts is from Gehayi, but that speculation is beyond the scope of this game)

Also suspect you might have written Obrimothue.

Can't remember if you're into Hamilton but if you are, you almost certainly wrote We Keep Meeting for Citagazze.

Would be only moderately surprised if you'd written Our, My The City for Alex Seanchai, but I don't really think you did. But I'd guess better odds on that fic than on a fic chosen at random. Mostly because I know you regretted not being able to write about Loki being genderqueer, so genderqueer gods is a thing you probably wanted to try to do.

I do think that you did not write Forged of Gold for shiniestqueen, because the summary is not the kind of summary you write. You also did not write Lingua Franca. Same reason.

If I get only one of these right does that still mean I get a fic?

(If I get all of them right, which would be very unlikely indeed, do I get yet more? Two fics, maybe?)

That was a fun game and I look forward to learning whether I won or not! :)

(POST-REVEALS EDIT: welp. No story for me, I guess.)

I would read mirrorverse Arthur fic if I knew anything at all about the canon. Or, actually, it might be better that I don't, in this case.

Summaries: you write declarative sentences that are true within the story, not statements from outside it or about it. And they're statements. Forged of Gold has a noun phrase as its summary ("a retelling of [...]") and it describes the story itself (a retelling!) rather than sort of... ignoring that it's a story? If you had written "a retelling of Hephaestus' rise to Olympus and the time after, exploring him and his relationships to the important people in his life" (c/p from veilchenjaeger's summary), you would have used a summary like "Hephaestus rises to Olympus" (or some other statement that's true on their side of the fourth wall). Your summaries are like "Odin has wrongs to right" and definitely not like "a retelling in prose of the song Hearthfire". (Though, on combing your AO3 to double-check, I find that Punica Fides doesn't fit this pattern, and arguably neither does In the end, or Spirits of this age, or Two for Joy. Out of 55 works, only 51 fit this pattern. I was overconfident.)

I know little enough about Greek myth that I didn't think about the specific deity in question, just ideas like, you're willing to acknowledge genderqueerness in fiction (which is not a universal trait), and you like mythic fandoms... *shrug* hardly proof, I know, and knew then, too. As I said then, I'd've been moderately surprised to be right with that one.

And I will totally look forward to reading Lies told by firelight in the future. (Just as soon as I've read canon... thanks for the rec!)

(Wait, you can choose who you write for in Yuletide? I thought it was random matches! Maybe I should reconsider maybe doing YT!)

:( I'm sorry to hear that you've been having issues with the rest of the Arthur fandom. Sounds disheartening.

Ah, I had thought it was something like that. Thanks for the link to that comm.

What would happen if you wrote your version and put it on AO3 and raked in kudos for your original idea and fresh new take? I'd read it, at least.

Oh! Thank you so much for that link! :DDD

Hmm, what about an FF story from when Ant-Man & She-Hulk etc. were temporarily running the Future Foundation? Maybe a crazy field trip or a weird class or the kids want to have an indoor camping trip or something like that?
