With how advanced technology has become over the last two decades alone, I go through moments of "we live in the future!" It seems ridiculous because I'm only in my late twenties, but still.
When I went to The Martian last week, one of the advertisements shown before the movie (along with Buy Your Season Tickets For This Sports Team, Attend the Restaurant Attached to the Cinema, Choose THIS Mobile Network Provider, etc), was an ad for a 3D printer! For your home! And examples of all the useful household items you could make with it!
A few of my friends actually have 3D printers, but they are of the very very sciency/engineering/do-it-yourself type I would expect to be interested in this sort of thing. This was a whole new level of mainstream.
