Ha, she's not always evil! I'd say she's evil about half the time in English versions, and good half the time. There's also a tendency in English to conflate Morgane, Morgause, and the Lady of the Lake, so you may have only one or two characters taking on the plot role of all three. (Which can sometimes be confusing, when you have the same person as Modred's mother and the one preserving Arthur at the end, for example.)
