I tend to try to start with a hook and short and direct is suited to that. Strange Aeons is from Doctor Doom's PoV and Doctor Doom does occasionally do direct, but he doesn't do short. I write in present tense, mostly.
So does Prom Night! I was running out of inspiration for titles then and someone somewhere suggested using the last word(s) of the fic as titles and I thought that was a great idea. I've tried to have last words that fit the fic thematically/could work as a title ever since, to more or less success. Some that work really well are: Look to the stars for In Perfect Light (because it echoes the Blue Lantern Oath too), Ages of the World for A day in the afterlife and Once More With Feeling for The Toga of Time.
