It is! It's a Demon Knights fic where math saves the day. One of the characters in Demon Knights is called Al Jabr and is pretty much an eleventh-century science hero. Have you read Demon Knights? You should! (Also, the fic is about friendship, because I'm me, and just the title fits on several levels.)
