dhampyresa: (A most terrible case of the Star Wars)
I consider the movies and both the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoon -- ie, the visual media -- the extent of Star Wars canon.

Not because I have anything against the wider Star Wars EU, but because the Star Wars EU has something against me. That is, I'm a completionist and if I ever was to start going down the rabbit hole of "the Star Wars EU is canon" then I'd have to consume all of it and I would get nothing else done.

I'm not saying I won't read any Star Wars EU, but it's basically fic to me. People are free to have wider or more resticted views of canon than me, so long as they let me know where they stand -- I will read movies-only-compliant fic and entire-EU-compliant fic.

Also, I don't care about Qui-Gon and as far as I can tell he plays a substantial role in more than one book. I just really really don't care about him.

Also also, I've read a fair amount of fic in which the all clones are totally onboard with/consider themselves part of Mandalorian culture and apparently that's based in the EU? Which. Hm. How do I put this. I don't think that's likely. I don't mind some of the clones -- or even most -- trying to connect to their heritage, but all of them? No. Especially since Clone Wars goes to such great lengths to make all the clones into individuals. Look. Culture and identity and how people relate to both of these is complicated and I think making all the clones react to them the same way is robbing them of their individuality. They're not numbers, they're free men! They're going to relate to Mandalore as individuals.

On a completely different note, I never get tired of explaining to people that Darth Maul is still alive! And he is so entertaining. He's such an asshole, but I love him so much.
