Day 7
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
You thought I was going to talk about friendship fic, but no, I will talk about friendship fic! Mostly because it's super late (because I was typing up a post about the rest of the books I read in 2014 and at 1.3k in, I've dealt with only 3 of them, because I am apparently back in tl;dr book mode) and so I apologise in advance if this isn't very coherent.
So friendship fic is my favourite kind of fic and pretty much everything else I like is a sub-type of it or derives from it somehow:
- "People on opposite side caring about each other" is pretty much what happens when you can't be friends but you also can't not be friends.
- "Chosen families" is what happens when you don't have a family, so you make one.
- "Friendship in unlikely places" is pretty much "friendship fic + crack fic taken seriously" and crack fic taken seriously is also one of my favourite tropes.
I tend to multiship, but there are occasionally things I cannot ship romantically because I friendship them so hard. The one example that comes to mind immediately is Jace Valchek and Charlie Aleph from the Bloodhound Files. The amount of NOPE I have at this idea can pretty much be seen from space.
For the most part, the pairs I friendship but don't ship tend to be f/m (I mean, aside from the things I just plain don't ship), but I will honestly read friendship fic in any combination of genders.
Or write it, even. It seems to be pretty much all I write these days.
