I think people like a lot of different things and depending on the fandom it can be hit or miss whether your stuff gets seen, and whether people seem to like it.
I was all set to not care about Rogue One, as I am with most SW stuff outside the core movies, but then I saw a gif of Jyn on Tumblr and I was like, oh no she's hot, and then I had to watch the trailer, and now I'm really excited for it. I didn't realize they were going to have a female protagonist for Rogue One, and I'm really happy that they are.
