Hugo finalists 2024

Unless I'm miscounting, there are only 13 Chinese finalists in the 2024 Hugo shortlist. A bit over 11%. I thought there would be more.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Chinese fans with voting rights didn't bother.

I honestly think this is the year least likely to have ballot fuckery, just because so many people are mad about ballot fuckery.

I'm glad to have the Chinese nominations that made it, but it is sad that more of the Chengdu members don't seem to have nominated :(

Yeah. Possible reasons, in ascending order of sadness:

1) Less interest now the excitement of having it in Chengdu has passed, and/or forgetting they're eligible to nominate this year too.

2) Lower hopes of Chinese works winning, assuming they'll be drowned out by Western votes from Glasgow attendees.

3) Expectation that maybe Chinese votes will just get ditched this year too.
