An informal poll
Without research, do you know who Léopold Sédar Senghor is?
Just trying to get a sense of how much context I need to give to quoting in the Black Panther fic I am writing.

Yes. I must have been five or six when I read a translation of "Je veux dire ton nom" in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Talking to the Sun: An Illustrated Anthology of Poems for Young People (1985), accompanied by a photograph of the beautiful jasper Fragment of a Queen's Face. It was my favorite poem in the anthology. I looked him up on my own for the first time in high school.

OMG THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED thank you so much! I saw a picture of it once in passing and it has haunted me (in a good way) ever since.

You're welcome! It was "Fragment of a head of Queen Tiye" when I was a child, but apparently there are now other contenders. I also love it very much.

I can make no promises for when it will actually materialise, hahaha

(Having looked him up: yes, I'm sure I heard his name as part of the contextualizing of some other Négritude authors whose works I read in French classes, and probably in looking up stuff about Senegal now and again. One of the many countries I really should know more about than I do.)
