Is this about that dreadful sounding novel that was going to use the Kosovo war as a backdrop to its (American) character's epic love story? Because yeah, that was an appalling thing to witness unfold — although, as you say, hardly the only example of this kind of thing.

I was going to ask if this was about Trump's comments over the American who died in North Korea, but I see someone else in your comments has asked about a totally different self-centered American incident, which... really just reinforces your point.
