Or tell me that it's okay for me to write for an ongoing canon. Lots of people do it! Why am I stuck on but "what if my fic is rendered obsolete before I post it?!" -- then just mark it as AU, self, ffs. Not that it's much of a concern given how much canon focuses on these two, even though one of them's nominally a main character (I say bitterly, with a bitter expression). But still. I'm stuck on that, like the silly person that I am.

If I thought it wasn't okay to write for an ongoing canon, I'd be the biggest hypocrite. :D OF COURSE IT'S OKAY! Write it, write it, write it! And if it gets rendered obsolete, mark it as AU, or "canon-divergent after ch/ep/installment X" or whatever.

Intellectually I know it's okay, emotionally I am a silly person. But I will write it and it will be an AU if I have to and there will be plot and explosions and maybe even kissing.
