I'm also slightly faceblind AND struggle with characters with multiple names, so I had the same issue with Nirvana in Fire. I did eventually manage to get everyone (or at least the main characters) straight. But I was also shipping Lady General (Nihuang)/Lady Spy (Xia Dong) from the start. Come on, they were army buddies!
