The Gwen covers fandom is based on this series of variant covers where Gwen Stacy was reimagined as various figures of Marvel comics (to promote Spider-Gwen). Si I guess the fandom is really Marvel comics?
Anyway, you should totally read the fics! I think #It'sRainingGwen can be read with no/minimal canon knowledge. The Uncanny X-Gwen and Better from a Distance require some canon knowledge (X-Men and Avengers + some Spider-Gwen, respectively) but osmosis might be enough if I add the info that in Spider-Gwen MJ and Gwen are in a rock band together. See the Blazing Skies Before Us is the one that relies to most on Marvel knowledge: the setting is based on the (semi-*)current line wide event called Secret Wars/Battleworld, in which Doom saved the entire multiverse through sheer force of will (LONG STORY). On top of that, the narrative style is a send-up of the overly narrated style of early Marvel comics -- what comes across as redundant in a text + image medium works really well in text.
